TOMORROW NIGHT IS OUR HOMECOMING GAME. We'd like to see our stands packed with KM colors! In fact, we are calling tomorrow Official Gold and Navy Day. National Childhood Cancer Month is also underway and it is being honored with a gold ribbon. As a special promotion, Mr. Bestor's Leadership Class will be selling gold pom poms at the game for $5 and donating all proceeds to cancer research! So stop in the Laser Locker for some KM gear and make sure to get your pom poms. Let's hope for a big victory over Waukesha North and childhood cancer! GO LASERS!!!!

KMSD held its first World Cafe today with more than 65 participants and team members in attendance. This conversation with community members, parents, students, and staff will inform our strategic vision for the next 3-5 years. The discussion centered around four main questions for the district 1) What do you value most about KMSD? 2) Imagine 3-5 years from now. What do you hope KMSD looks like? 3) If you could change one thing, what would it be? What would you like more of, less of, or new? 4) Based on these discussions, what do you hope the strategic plan prioritizes? Our virtual World Cafe will take place Tuesday evening and will follow the same format. A community survey was also sent out via postcard. If you have not yet participated in this survey, we urge you to do so by 10/2. Your voice is an important part of this process! If you would like to learn more, visit https://www.kmsd.edu/page/spt. Thank you to everyone who has participated. We appreciate your time and engagement!

Two HS^2 Students Earned Perfect Scores on the Advanced Placement® (AP) Research Exam. Lexi Strickland and Anna Sueflohn were among 357 students (out of more than 30,000 nationwide) to earn this distinction. Their extraordinary accomplishments highlight the ongoing efforts to support academic excellence in the Kettle Moraine School District. They also speak to the incredible learning environment provided by our High School of Health Sciences, which was recently named the best high school in Wisconsin by US News. We are so proud of Lexi, Anna, and all of our AP students and teachers. AP courses and exams provide opportunities to take college-level courses, and earn college credits and placements, while still in high school. We will be featuring an interview with Lexi and Anna in tomorrow's Laser Focused, so watch your "in-box" to learn more about the wonderful things that are happening at KM!

The Waukesha Freeman shared a really nice article this morning on our upgraded facilities! The article featured quotes from our naming sponsors, coaches, and an overview of the project from CFO, John Stellmacher. We are incredibly proud of this project and the fiscal and logistical planning that went into it. We look forward to sharing additional updates as we complete upgrades to our spring sport venues. We cannot thank the entire KM Community enough for their support during this process! https://waukeshafreeman-wi.newsmemory.com/?publink=056c34e17_134ad2d

The KMMS Makerspace, is a physical and virtual environment based out of theLibrary and facilitated by Ms. Ottenad. The space brings individuals together to create, invent, and explore using a variety of tools, materials, and technologies. These spaces are designed to foster hands-on learning, creativity, and problem-solving. Our Makerspace can take various forms, from dedicated physical workshops with 3D printers, and electronics, to virtual platforms where students can collaborate on digital projects and coding. Makerspaces provide many benefits for our students with important ties to curriculum, mental health, student engagement, and career readiness: Curriculum Integration: STEAM education that integrates science, technology, engineering, arts, and math into hands-on projects. Cross-Disciplinary Learning: Allowing students to apply skills from various subjects to real-world projects. Mental Health: Reducing anxiety by allowing students to engage in hands-on, creative activities provide a form of relaxation and an escape from academic pressures. Sense of Achievement: Completing projects boosts self-esteem and confidence by illustrating tangible results from their efforts. Student Engagement: Makerspaces tap into students' intrinsic motivation by allowing them to pursue their interests and passions. Real-World Relevance: Hands-on projects in Makerspaces have real-world applications that improve student engagement in their learning. Career Readiness: Students learn practical skills, such as problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork, which are highly valued in the job market. Exposure to Emerging Technologies: These spaces incorporate cutting-edge technologies like 3D printing, coding, and circuitry, preparing students for careers in fields like engineering, computer science, and design. Entrepreneurship: Enabling students to prototype and develop their ideas prepares students to thrive in innovation-driven industries.

The Kettle Moraine Tennis Association has partnered with KMSD and Three Pillars to build our new tennis complex and pavilion. This state-of-the-art facility replaces courts with cracking surfaces that were no longer safe for play. The new facilities offer 10 tennis courts, allowing KM Varsity and JV programs to practice together, host matches, and attract community tournaments. The courts also offer 18 pickle ball courts that are generating significant use from community members, including Three Pillars residents. This wonderful complex will serve our district and community for many years to come! The facility cost $2.2 million. KMTA and KMSD are generating revenue through community leagues, private lessons, and other events to financially support these costs. KMTA is also in the process of completing a pavilion which will be funded through private donations and they are actively seeking your financial support. To learn more about the facilities and how your contribution will be used, contact kimtheodorakis@gmail.com. Thank you for continuing to partner with us as we make KM a premier institution in all areas!
